How does Heaven Impact Me Today?

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

In the Christian faith, finding the answer to what the final objective of life is ‌can be confusing. Is it just to get to float around with angel wings one day in a reality totally separate and different from ours? Now do not get me wrong; one of my favorite hymns is, “When We All Get to Heaven.” However, does a Christian live in order to get a pass to heaven?

If the Christian life is not just insurance for a good afterlife, then what is it? Why does the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus matter today? It is not because this opens up the way for us to go to another world, rather Jesus opened the way for the reality of heaven to come to us. The story of the Bible is humanity choosing to rule creation without God, which separates them from God. However, no matter how many times humans failed, God loved them and made a way for humanity to dwell with Him. The ultimate goal of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension is to make heaven and earth one. To bring God’s reality and our reality together and eventually to renew them both: eradicating death and sin once for all from all creation.

Therefore, God’s objective was never evacuation but transformation. God does not want us to evacuate to heaven, but to transform all creation. The question is, are we willing to be transformed right here, right now? Because the transformation does not begin one day when, or when we die. It begins the moment you give your life to Jesus.
